WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT?

The ResQsheet for Vinyl & Carpet – Deep & Airflow, is made for standard single and king single size mattress with airflow pressure care mattresses, and well as mattresses which are are deeper than standard mattresses. It is designed to help evacuate people who cannot quickly evacuate a building in an emergency. It is stored under the bed mattress, so it is ready to use in an emergency. There is a plastic sideboard built in underneath, which aids when sliding on all floor surfaces including carpet, vinyl and wood. Some common names for this type of product are Fire Rescue Sheet, Fire Blanket, Fire Sheet, Ski Sheet and Evacuation Sheet.

Some important features of this product are:

Press Studs to contain the Cross Straps in their storage pockets. This helps prevent the straps from falling out and becoming tangled in a bed frame. We use plastic Press Studs so they do not damage a washing machine, and will not rust.
resqsheet rubber Rubber material sewn on each side. This helps prevent the mattress from slipping when someone gets into or out of bed. When the ResQsheet is in use, the sides of the mattress are lifted up when the Cross Straps are fastened so that the rubber is not in contact with the bed frame or floor.
Long Pulling Straps at both ends. These allow for Rescuers to pull from either end, and they do not have to bend down to pull.

WHO IS THIS PRODUCT SUITABLE FOR?

This product is suitable for people who may not be able to walk quickly due to disability, frailty, medication, or sedation after an operation.

BRIEF INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Fit the ResQsheet for Vinyl & Carpet to the bed, under the mattress. The elastic straps attach to the corners of the mattress.

In an emergency, remove the Cross Straps from their storage pockets and attach and tighten over the top of the patient, on top of the bed clothes. As the strap tightens, the sides of the mattress should rise up slightly, allowing the rubber strips to be clear of the bed frame. If necessary place a pillow or blanket under the buckles to give more protection to the patient.

Remove the Head and Foot Pulling Straps form their storage pockets. Lower the bed. Slide off the bed using the advice given form your manual handling trainer. We recommended sliding the person towards the foot of the bed slightly, then turning 90 degrees, then lowering the person off the bed frame feet first. This way, they are ready for when descending stairs.

WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT MADE FROM?

Nylon, webbing, plastic buckles, elastic.

Note: There is no Standard for this product, therefore we have adopted the testing requirements as set out in International Standard ISO 10535:2011: Hoists for the transfer of disabled persons – Requirements and test methods. This Standard covers testing for mechanical lifting hoists and associated lifting slings. It includes a method for obtaining a SWL for a lifting sling which lifts a person’s entire weight, which Pelican’s range of slings adhere to. We use the same materials, thread and method of stitching our slings, as we do for the ResQ products. An important difference is that the ResQ products are designed to be slid, not lifted, so the SWL stated above could theoretically be increased. Because people’s weight and size may be distributed differently between the chest, stomach and legs, it may be possible that the Cross Straps do not fit some bariatric people. If possible, we recommend this is tested before an emergency occurs. If this is the case, please contact us as we may be able to supply extension Cross Straps.

Manual Handling Warning: Products designed to help with manual handling must be used correctly to avoid injury to the Carer, patient or user. We recommend practising in a safe environment with an able-bodied colleague. Immediately cease any manual handling movement at the first sign of risk or discomfort. Use the most appropriate piece of equipment. Complete a suitable risk assessment before using, and seek assistance where necessary. It is important to remember that manual handling products are designed to assist, they are not designed to take the place of manual handling.

How to thread a buckle: It is vital that a buckle is threaded on the webbing strap correctly. Incorrect fitting could result in the product not performing as expected, and may put the users at risk of injury. Click here to see our video demonstrating how to thread a new buckle onto the webbing.

Plan your escape route: Practise before there is an emergency. Be mindful of any obstacles that may impede an evacuation, such as furniture, bed footboards or headboards, and narrow doorways.

How to slide off the bed frame: Although we recommend to slide off feet first, you may have certain environmental factors which means that is not possible. For example, the footboard may not detach form the bed. Take guidance from your Manual Handling Trainer to determine the safest way to use this product.
