WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT?
Moving a wheelchair or hoist can be very difficult on carpet. By laying this Hard Plastic Flooring on top of the carpet, manual handling will be a lot easier for Carers.
Hard Plastic Flooring is preferable to flexible plastic matting, as some matting is unsuitable for plush or high pile carpet where wheels can sink into the soft plastic surface. The Flooring can be placed wherever a hoist or wheelchair needs to move and also helps prevent carpet from being damaged by wheels.
The Plastic also helps prevent the carpet getting damaged by the wheels on a hoist or wheelchair.
WHO IS THIS PRODUCT SUITABLE FOR?
People who are experiencing difficulty moving a wheelchair or hoist on carpet.
BRIEF INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
- Lay the Flooring side by side on the carpet to cover the area needed.
- Once in position, push the Flooring pieces next to each other and use adhesive tape to keep them together.
- Normally, some tape on each side and some in the middle of each piece of Flooring will be sufficient to stop it moving apart.
- If the carpet is thick, additional tape can be attached underneath the Flooring.
- When walking on the Flooring, the plastic may bend slightly, but this is normal as weight is applied.
WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT MADE FROM?
Plastic. Custom sizes on request – please contact us.
WARNING
The Flooring may flatten or indent carpet pile if left in position for an extended period. However, the carpet should return to normal after vacuuming. We recommend lifting the Flooring periodically to let the carpet breathe and to check no moisture has accumulated under the Plastic Flooring.

Pulling Force Testing: We placed a 207.2 lbs load on a hoist and recorded the pulling force required on both carpet and Hard Plastic Flooring. The pulling force on carpet was approximately 33.1 lbs, while on Hard Plastic Flooring it was approximately 15.4 lbs. The test concluded that the average pulling force was reduced by about half when using Hard Plastic Flooring. View the test video.
Weight Testing: The purpose of testing was to see what would happen to the plastic under stress of a heavy load. Pelican placed some plastic flooring with some carpet and underlay under the wheels of a hoist lifting a weight of 434lbs, plus the weight of the hoist. This weight was left static for 30 minutes, and after removing the plastic, it was hard to see any indenting or damage to the material.
