WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT?
The Cushion can be used after an arm or shoulder operation, with the Patient wearing an Arm Sling & Abductor Pillow after a rotator cuff operation, with a sling alone, or even without an arm sling.
Accessories included with the Cushion:
- An Elbow Abductor – for use if the arm still needs abducting when not using an Abductor Pillow with an Arm Sling.
- Two Arm Cuffs – normally only one may be needed for the wrist, but if necessary, one can be used for the arm, above the elbow.
- A soft velour Back Strap – used if it is necessary to stop the Patient lifting the arm rest.
WHO IS THIS PRODUCT SUITABLE FOR?
For people who have had rotator cuff surgery, broken their arm, or who have had a stroke and suffer from hemiplegia, to keep the arm in place when sleeping.
BRIEF INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
The Arm Elevation Sleep Cushion can help someone sleep on their side with their arm resting on a soft convoluted arm rest, and their hand also on the convoluted hand rest. The convolutions help with softness and blood flow. The person can also turn onto their back with their arm still in position on the arm rest, but it can be difficult to roll onto the opposite side. If preventing rolling onto the opposite side is important, then a special Bed Wedge with Non-Slip Sleeve can be supplied to stop this from happening.
If necessary, the arm can be kept in position by using an Arm Cuff to help keep the arm in place. This may help people with carpal tunnel syndrome by preventing the arm from going into the fetal position.
