ABOUT THIS PRODUCT
The Leg Lifting Hygiene Slings are designed to lift a patient’s legs and hips off a mattress when changing incontinence pads. They are 100% heat-sealed for infection control, allowing them to be wiped clean after use. These slings have a soft, breathable cover with internal foam for added comfort.
Two versions are available:
- Webbing loops for metal hook hoists
- Keyhole plates for tilt frame hoists
This product is sold as a pair.
WHO SHOULD USE THIS PRODUCT?
The Leg Lifting Hygiene Slings are designed for people who need their legs lifted for cleaning or for fitting incontinence pads.
HOW TO USE THIS PRODUCT
With the patient lying on their back in bed, gently raise their knees to slide one sling under each leg. Ensure the legs are centered so that when lifted, each leg sits in the middle of the sling. Position the slings just under the knee and upper leg. Position the hoist hanger bar over the patient’s stomach (not above the knees) so that when lifted, the legs move slightly towards the patient’s head. Ensure both the bed and hoist brakes are applied.
When raising the hoist, ensure the patient is comfortable and not experiencing pain. It should be possible to raise the patient’s legs and hips high enough off the mattress to slide protective sheeting underneath.
If the patient is wearing pajama pants, these can be pulled down to the thigh next to the slings. The existing pad can then be removed and the patient cleaned, washed, and dried before a clean pad is applied.
The patient can then be lowered back onto the mattress so the side tapes of the pad can be secured. Once the pad is in place, the legs are lifted again and the pajamas can be pulled back up. It may be possible to fit the pad while the patient’s legs are still raised to avoid a second lift, however ensure the fit remains correct once the patient is lowered.
Once the legs are lowered back onto the mattress, the slings should be carefully removed from under the knees. Any exposed parts of the pad can be tucked into clothing.
