WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT?
The Extended Leg Board is designed to support an extended leg and is normally used in a wheelchair. Made from a strong plastic that is easy to wipe clean to help Infection Control. This plastic is virtually maintenance free and will not splinter. The webbing straps can be removed for washing or replacing if necessary.
The Extended Leg Board – Leg Cushions (sold separately) are an accessory to offer protection under the leg and heel.
WHO IS THIS PRODUCT SUITABLE FOR?
The Board can be used for either the left or right leg. The Amputee and Child sizes work in the same way as the Standard size, but with a shorter board length, making it easier to turn though doorways and around corners.
BRIEF INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Place the Board on the Chair. Make sure the Extended Leg section will be on the left or right side as required. Do up the red straps at the rear chair frame, wrapping it around the frame before doing up the buckle.
There are another two slots at the front of the sitting section. These are only used if they are needed on a wheelchair when the rear straps do not keep the board in place. These may be needed to restrain the patient’s thighs. If they are needed, another set of straps can be purchased by contacting Pelican. Once the patient is sitting down with their leg on the extended section, the Leg Strap can be done up to keep the leg in position.

Weight Testing: There is no Standard for this product, and we are aware that any testing we do does not account for individual people’s weight distribution, shape and size. For our own ‘in house’ testing we placed a total of 211.9lbs. on a wheelchair seat section of the Board and three weights totalling 92.3lbs on the Extended Leg Section of the board, so the weight was running the length of the extended section. We left the weights in place for 30 minutes, this is 10 minutes longer than the testing time when testing Patient Lifting Slings for the Australian and International Standards. The extended section of the Board bent down so the top edge of the board was 7.5″ from the floor. After 30 minutes this had gone down to 7.1″ from the floor. After removing the weights from the Extended Leg Section the board resumed to being straight again and the end was 16.5″ from the floor. We then placed the board on a flat table and noticed a slight bend of about 0.04″. There was no apparent damage to the Board.
