WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT?

The Bed Ladder Strap is a long piece of webbing with hand loops sewn down its length. This allows the patient to hold onto it to help them sit up. It is an alternative to using overhead metal monkey bars. As well as in hospitals and aged care facilities, they have also been used in various surgical, imaging and cancer care practices for day patients.

The black elastic attaches to the bed frame, or can be tucked under the mattress. This makes retrieving the Strap easier if it falls off the bed.

The Bed Ladder Strap Middle Bed Belt is an accessory for the Bed Ladder Strap. On a bed where there is nowhere at the foot end to attach the Bed Ladder Strap to, it is used to provide an anchor point.

WHO IS THIS PRODUCT SUITABLE FOR?

This product is suitable for people who have limited strength, to help them sit up in bed.

BRIEF INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Lasso the foot end around a suitable anchor point on the bed frame. Clip the black elastic in position near the head of the bed, or tuck it under the mattress, ensuring it will not be a tripping hazard. The loop handles allow the patient to put their wrist(s) through, and use their strength to help sit up, rather than use their finger muscles.

WHAT IS THIS PRODUCT MADE FROM?

Webbing, elastic.

WARNING

Ensure the black elastic strap is not a tripping hazard.

General Manual Handling Warning: Manual Handling products are designed to assist carers to help patients. They will not make the carer stronger or fitter, but with correct training and use of the products, should make manual handling easier and safer for both staff and patients. When training, practise with an able-bodied colleague. If any procedure is not comfortable or is difficult and puts the carer or patient in a dangerous position, the participants should call out to stop the manoeuvre, recover and recommence. Never jeopardise your health by straining, twisting or being incorrectly positioned when manual handling. Always select the most appropriate equipment for the patient’s current condition and if in doubt, use mechanical equipment. Ask your Manual Handling adviser for individual guidance.
